Bellevue was founded by William Maydenbauer in 1869.  It was originally a rural area with little development.  After the first floating bridge from Seattle in 1940 and the subsequent Evergreen Point Floating bridge in 1963, Bellevue shifted to a bedroom community for Seattle's growth.  Bellevue's development has continued and it is now the fifth largest city in Washington and the 15th wealthiest on a per capita basis.

Bellevue is the major city on the Eastside - east of Lake Washington.  As of 2006, the population was 117,000 in an area of approximately 34 square miles.

Bellevue is currently in the midst of a building boom.  Lincoln Square was opened in 2005 and the Qwest building has been converted in to a new City Hall.  There are 22 cranes currently erected within the downtown core of the city.  Some of the construction projects are:
